At last our work is finished with the installation of the “shipswheel”, signboard, ropework and garden signboards in the Helen Kenney Memorial Garden in Limehouse.
The late Helen Kenney was the driving force behind the Limehouse Community Forum granting the neighbourhood Cyril Jackson Primary School access and ownership over this part of the Ropemakers Garden. The children under my guidance have attempted to reflect the local story of the docks, the ships and the local ropemaking industries through their garden sculptures.
Unfortunately, illness took Helen prematurely and she was consequently unable to see her vision realised. She will though be heartened to know that those passing through the garden will be able to see how the garden flourishes.
